GI Earthing Strip – Galvanized Iron Grounding Flat
GI (Galvanized Iron) Earthing Strips, also called GI grounding flats, are heavy-duty metal strips used in industrial, commercial and residential electrical systems. They provide a safe, low-resistance path for fault currents and lightning surges to reach the ground.
The strips are made from high-quality mild steel flats and hot-dip galvanized. This leaves a thick, rust-resistant zinc layer, typically 80+ microns, that protects the steel from aggressive and corrosive soil conditions.
They are available in standard widths of 25, 32, 40, 50 and 100 mm with thicknesses from 3 mm to 10 mm. 25 x 3 mm is common for residential and light work, while 50 x 6 mm is widely used in substations and heavy industrial plants.
Where it is used
GI strips are used to build buried grounding loops, interconnect earthing pits, and run as risers to electrical panels, machinery frames and lightning protection systems.
